OneAfrica Children Defense Fund was established in October 2001 by a group of young Africans in the United States with the aim of protecting children against pedophilia, child slavery and exploitation, child pornography and analphabetism in Africa. But the founders wanted also to encouraging other Africans living abroad to contribute to their homeland and providing assistance in the fields of health and education in West Africa.

OCDF seeks from all working members of the African community, and other with an interest towards Africa, a donation of at least $1 (or its equivalent) per month. Each contribution grants membership and all members will be kept informed about and where donated funds are making a difference.

OCDF wants to demonstrate how every African, especially those residing abroad, and other interested in the continent can make a difference in the lives of many children in Africa with a regular contribution. We have realized that besides being in a privileged position compared to that of most of our children and fellow citizens, we are not doing anything substantial to help , while many non-Africans are engaged in various social works in the Continent and all non-Governmental Organisation in almost all African countries are also being financed by foreign donors.(It is note worthy that two third of the budget of African countries comes from foreign aid) In such a situation we thought it would be only appropriate to encourage Africans to contribute to their homeland as much as they can, instead of again looking for foreign donors. Hence, our main focus will be on raising funds from Africans throughout the world, though we will warmly welcome any help and donation from other communities.

To supervise the work in Africa, a co-ordinating committee, OCDF-Africa, has been formed in Senegal,Gambia and Guinea. They are small groups of volunteers dedicated to social work. The committee will not only co-ordinate with us, but will also work towards generating funds locally to support the projects . OCDF expects your encouragement and support in order to better serve and protect the children. Remember also that each year in sub-Saharan Africa, almost 25 percent of the children under the age of five die needlessly. Diarrheal disease and malnutrition kill huge numbers of children who do not have clean water or proper nutrition. Countless more children on the African continent die from preventable diseases such as pneumonia, whooping cough, malaria, measles and tuberculosis.

Few cents a day can provide a simple, inexpensive, and highly effective health care program. OneAfrica Children's Defense Fund is currently at work in 5 countries and it is saving the lives of innocent little children every day.
